The Pop Art rose produces large, exceptionally full blooms striped in an unusual combination of pastel pink and golden yellow. Bred by Christian Bédard in the United States, its unconventional coloring reverses the pattern commonly seen in striped roses: rather than red flowers striped with yellow, Pop Art combines soft pink with striking bands and splashes of deeper yellow.
Its name evokes Pop Art, the influential art movement that flourished in Britain and the United States during the 1950s and 1960s. Artists such as Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein transformed images drawn from advertising, comic books, consumer products, and popular culture into bold and instantly recognizable works of art. With its exuberant colors and seemingly painted stripes, the Pop Art rose brings a similar sense of playfulness and visual surprise to the garden.
